Crews, vehicles and materials paid for before the job pays.
Landscaping business loans
Landscaping and lawn care firms buy mowers, trailers and trucks before the first contract pays, and many run crews on weekly payroll. Fayette County had 88 landscaping employer establishments in 2023, 56.8% with fewer than five employees, plus 323 no-employee landscaping businesses in 2024 (Nonemployer Statistics). Equipment financing usually comes first, and a line of credit can carry crew pay in uneven months.
Cleaning business loans
Janitorial companies are labor-heavy: payroll goes out weekly while commercial clients pay monthly on invoice. A new commercial contract means hiring and equipping a crew weeks before the first monthly invoice is paid. The county had 87 janitorial employer establishments in 2023 with 1,408 employees, and 922 janitorial businesses with no employees in 2024. Working capital covers the payroll gap; equipment financing handles floor machines and vans.
Electrical contractors
Electricians carry wire, panels and fixtures between progress payments and run van fleets much like plumbers. Commercial jobs often bill in stages, so wire and gear bought for one phase can wait weeks for its payment. Fayette County had 65 electrical contractor employer establishments in 2023 with 940 employees. See the contractor funding page for draws and retainage, and equipment financing for vans and lifts.
Roofing contractors
Roofers buy shingles, underlayment and metal ahead of each job and may wait on insurance-claim payments. A crew, a dump trailer and a full load of materials all go out before the homeowner or insurer pays for the job. The county had 23 roofing employer establishments in 2023. A line of credit covers materials between payments; equipment financing handles trucks, trailers and lifts.
Painting contractors
Painting contractors are lighter on equipment but heavy on labor and materials, with jobs paid on completion or in stages. Paint, primer and lift rentals for a large job are paid for long before the final walk-through releases payment. There is no separate county count for painters in the Census tables used here. Working capital fits a large commercial job; equipment financing covers sprayers, lifts and vans.
Concrete and excavation contractors
Concrete and excavation firms are equipment-intensive: mixers, skid steers, excavators, dump trucks and trailers. Hours and service records on used machines are worth having ready for a partner. Each machine is a financing decision, often made when a contract justifies it. No separate county count is published in the Census tables used here. Equipment financing, including used machines, is the core tool; the construction page covers the cash cycle.
Pool contractors
Pool builders buy shells, liners, pumps and filtration ahead of installation and collect in stages from homeowners. A build that runs several weeks can have most of its materials paid for before the second stage payment arrives. No county count is available in the Census tables used here. A line of credit carries materials between stage payments; trucks and excavation gear fit equipment financing.
